-
- Installation
-
- Before installing the LaserJet 5SI/5SI MX/5SI NX Printing
- System, close all applications and TSR (Terminate and Stay
- Resident) programs that load at startup (in Windows or DOS)
- such as shell utilities such as: Microsoft Office Manager,
- Norton Desktop, Dashboard, etc. Lastly, exit any previous
- version of HP Status Window that may be running.
-
-
- Document does not print correctly
-
- Several things can cause a document to not print correctly;
- not enough memory in the printer to handle the document being
- printed, incorrect behavior by applications, Windows or printer
- drivers, or incorrect settings in the printer drivers. If
- using the HP LaserJet 5SI/5SI MX/5SI NX PCL driver, try
- printing in either HP-GL/2 or Raster modes or changing
- resolutions from 600 to 300. These modes can be selected in the
- printer setup dialog under the Print Quality sheet.
-
-
- General
-
- The user should not print to a HP LaserJet 5Si Mopier with
- drivers other than the supplied HP LaserJet 5Si Mopier drivers.
- The Mopier driver includes the HP Transmit Once functionality
- as well as the stapling function that is not found in other
- drivers.
-
-
- Installer
-
- During the installation process a "Close other applications"
- screen will occur even if other applications are not running.
- Verify there are not any other applications running and
- continue.
-
- Windows 95 only - The Add Printer Wizard is still not
- recommended for a complete software installation. Please follow
- the installation instructions found in the users manual as well
- as the printing system readme. The Add Printer Wizard only
- installs the oem version of the driver.
-
- Windows NT only - There are no *.inf files on the CD so the user
- must use the setup utility to install the drivers. Service
- pack 4 should be installed before installing this driver.
- Service pack updates are available for free from Microsoft
- through their web site at http://www.microsoft.com.
-
- Common Problems
-
- Windows NT - Some printer properties such as output bin selection
- should be done from the File:Print Setup... menu instead of
- through application print dialog. If the properties are set
- through the application print dialog they won't take effect
- until the next print command.
-
- Windows NT 4.0 job separator pages do not work correctly with
- the Windows NT 4.0 PCL driver for the HP LaserJet 5Si Mopier.
-
- If you choose to have Windows NT print separator pages between
- print jobs, the separator pages will be directed to the printer's
- default output bin, regardless of the output destination for the
- rest of the job. For example, if a job is sent to the stapling
- bin and the default destination is the top bin, the job will be
- placed in the stapling bin, but the separator page will be
- placed in the top bin. Users who make heavy use of the stapler
- and wish to use Windows NT's job separation feature may use
- HP JetAdmin to set the printer's default output destination to
- the stapling bin. Jobs will be stapled with a loose separator
- page inserted between each job.
-
- In the Windows NT 4.0 section of the ReadMe, there is a list
- of instructions describing how to assign the printer to a port
- on your network. Item number 7 says: "Click on the Details tab
- to input or change your port information." It should say
- "Ports tab" instead of "Details tab."
-
- Windows NT 3.51 - The NT 3.51 PS driver cannot produce correctly
- stapled multiple copies of multi-page documents because it does
- not support HP TRANSMIT ONCE/printer collation. Only one copy
- can be correctly stapled. In both PCL and PS, in Lotus
- applications, the user must select an output bin destination
- via the print manager rather than in the driver via the
- application. Neither the PCL or PS driver are bi-directional.
-
- HP TRANSMIT ONCE - To envoke the HP TRANSMIT ONCE functionality
- the collation checkbox in the application dialog box should be
- unchecked. Some applications, even with the collation box
- un-checked will not envoke HP TRANSMIT ONCE. A workaround is to
- set number of copies in the application to 1 and set the
- desired number of copies in the driver.
-
- Win 3.1 & 95 HP TRANSMIT ONCE - By unchecking the collation
- dialog box in the application, it enables the driver to do the
- collation with the help of the HP TRANSMIT ONCE technology.
- There is no way to turn HP TRANSMIT ONCE off, unless the
- collation box in the application is checked, thus over riding
- the driver. It may be necessary to clear this checkbox every
- time you print in some applications. The driver always collates
- multiple copies. The number of copies may be set in either the
- application dialog or the printer dialog.
-
- WIN NT 4.0 HP TRANSMIT ONCE - The NT driver does have a
- collation option that allows the user to turn collation
- off or on. In order for HP TRANSMIT ONCE functionality to
- occur, the collation option in the application dialog
- box must be un-checked.
-
- HP DocWise and HP Toolbox- These only work on Windows
- 3.1 and 95 on NetWare networks only.
